President of the Greek Parliament, minister, and founder, in cooperation with his close friend Riccioti Garibaldi, of the “Greek Red Shirts” military unit (1897) with which he fought for the liberation of the city of Ioannina (Mainland Greece) in 1912, as well as in the independent region of Epirus during 1914. Alexander remains one of the most characteristic and noble personalities of modern Greek political and military history.
